Green Bay, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced that Dawn B. Crim, Ph.D. will be joining the University as its new vice chancellor for Inclusivity and Community Engagement effective August 9, 2023. She brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, governmental and civic leadership, and is recognized state-wide for her expertise in equity, diversity and inclusion. She has a proven track record in civic engagement, community partnerships and economic development.
Crim leaves the position as consultant for the Equity, Inclusion and Employee Well Being unit within the Office of Human Resources at UW-Madison and was most recently the cabinet secretary for the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
“I am thrilled to have Dr. Crim join us at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay,” said Chancellor Michael Alexander. “She brings a true passion for inclusivity and understands the importance of community engagement as it relates to meeting regional needs. I am excited to have her knowledge and expertise on our Cabinet and know that she will foster a positive experience on-campus and help us continue to connect in meaningful ways with the communities we serve.”
Throughout her career, Crim has been a fierce advocate for a collaborative approach to equity and inclusion in the public sector and throughout the community. As the Secretary for the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS), she led and created structures and policies that support diversity and inclusion, including the agency’s first equity and inclusion plan.
She is a champion of growth and innovation, shown by the community relations programs that continue to have an impact on the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
She redesigned WEOP, a state-wide college readiness grant program that provides preparation, resources, and financial support to low income and diverse middle and high school students by adding parenting education sessions and college tours which included siblings. This change expanded college exposure, improved student attendance and retention, and increased graduation rates.
“I am excited to join UW-Green Bay as its new Vice Chancellor for Inclusivity and Community Engagement to build upon current campus inclusivity efforts, extending them off campus to embrace and foster deeper connections within the community,” said Crim. “By engaging with all four campus communities, together we can realize the one university vision and better support students, families, non-profits and businesses in the region.”
Crim received her Bachelor’s Degree in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Virginia. She went on to complete a Masters in Counselor Education from The Pennsylvania State University and received her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
