Nestled beside a nature preserve in the Madison suburb of Fitchburg, EAGLE School has established itself as a haven for gifted learners. Founded on the belief that education should be both challenging and nurturing, EAGLE, an acronym for—Exemplary curriculum, Accelerated content, Guidance, Latitude in learning and teaching styles, and Enrichment—has empowered gifted learners since 1982.
Serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade, EAGLE was created with a bold mission: to help bright, motivated children thrive intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Here, academic rigor goes hand in hand with respect for the learning process. Students are challenged with coursework that demands higher-level thinking, and a questioning attitude isn’t just accepted; it’s expected.
While gifted education is often misunderstood or overlooked, EAGLE School is intentional about addressing the unique needs of these students. Contrary to popular belief, gifted students don’t always succeed on their own, nor are they uniformly gifted in every subject. Many need differentiated instruction, social-emotional support, and opportunities to work with intellectual peers. At EAGLE, these needs are met with thoughtful programming, small class sizes, and educators who understand that giftedness can come with both strengths and challenges.

Summer Day
In the scorching heat
Foxes roam, birds chirp, trees sway
Clouds roll in, then rainLion Hunt
Golden fur, sharp claws
Wind stops, savanna is still
It’s time for a hunt
One thing that sets EAGLE apart is its commitment to equity and inclusion. The school believes that giftedness knows no boundaries. Importantly, the school is also working to expand access. Through the financial assistance programs and outreach initiatives, EAGLE works to ensure that opportunity isn’t limited by zip code or income level. It’s a place where differences are celebrated – every voice and culture matters. In the words of one EAGLE student, “I like EAGLE because it’s a very inclusive community…I really like the diversity in all of the groups.”
Enrichment is woven into the fabric of school life. Clubs, music ensembles, athletics, and TGIF (Thank Goodness It’s Friday) activities allow students to explore new interests and grow outside the classroom. Whether racing cross-country or performing in the EAGLE Strings ensemble, students gain confidence, develop passions, and build lasting friendships.
For families who may not have traditionally seen themselves reflected in gifted education, EAGLE hopes to offer a different vision, one where all children with high potential are seen, supported, and given the opportunity to soar. For over four decades, EAGLE School has been lifting young minds, one student at a time.
