What is your view of the job you perform?

The Job that I perform is very important to the Scholars at the School. I am responsible for providing tutors and mentoring in the core courses of the Scholars.

I work with scholars and help them build the motivation and confidence that they all need to be successful in their Academic endeavors!

Throughout the school I enlist tutors that come into the school setting and assist the Scholars as well in Mathematics and English as well as other core courses that the Scholars feel they need extra assistance in.

Also,  teach careers class to the Scholars twice a week. The Scholars get to complete college exploration and do meaningful research and presentations on future career aspirations! The careers class is a vital segway for the Scholars to start learning early, about college requirements and funding opportunities they could be afforded as they decide on their Academic institutions of higher learning.

I am an Urban League youth empowerment coordinator at Cherokee Middle school. I love what I do because it allows me to make a real, lasting impact in the community. Through my role I am able to help student access free tutoring and support their growth. I provide a safe space where kids can feel welcoming, valued, and heard. This job is more important than academics, it’s about building relationships and personal development. Just being a positive influence and watching these kids grow in confidence is what keeps me going.

“The most important part of my job is helping students realize they can be successful, and that school will help them get there. Our tutors build connections with kids and foster a sense of confidence and belonging. I also run the 21st Century Careers program and other clubs, which give students a space to prepare for their future and be themselves.”

What is your view of the job you perform?

As a youth empowerment coordinator, I take pride in finding great candidates to come in and help our scholars regain their confidence and boost their learning skills in many subjects but mostly ELA and Math. It’s about fostering a deep sense of motivation and self-belief that empowers youth to become active participants in their own lives and communities.
