Alice Y Traore
Alice Y Traore is a local, self-taught watercolor artist who relocated several years ago to Wisconsin from Illinois for work in higher education. Her career in academia centers diversity and social justice and became a source of inspiration for her artwork. Much of her work represents the challenges and triumphs of Black women as she attempts to visually depict the pursuit of liberation, rejuvenation, and celebration in daily life. Alice rediscovered art during a period of physical healing. Painting has become her refuge when she is most in need of emotional, physical, and spiritual healing.
