Hey Momma, you know how it feels to be at the bottom of your own to do list? Yeah, me too! But you don’t have to be anymore. We have got to find ways to conquer the racing clock, to insert ourselves back into our lives and to save time. That’s the reason I developed Swurly and it’s the reason I’m motivated to buy many products I own. Trust me I try to carve out a little time for myself but since I’ve become a mother I have eliminated many of the steps in my beauty routine and creating perfectly coifed brows is a time suck. Mornings are chaotic especially when you have young children that are dependent on you to get them out the door. Have no fear honey, a solution is here!
Buttercup Beauty for Microblading
As a previous owner of a day spa I can be a bit critical when it comes to receiving beauty or wellness services. For a brief period, we offered permanent makeup at my establishment. However, it didn’t turn out to be the best fit for our therapeutic day spa atmosphere. Clients tend to chat throughout the appointment which is disruptive to massage clients who are seeking quiet. Recently, I was put up on microblading through a couple of my girlfriends. The fact that I could get my eyebrows semi-permanently shaped and filled made a ton of sense. This piqued my interest and warranted some Laufty research. Before I tell you why I chose Buttercup Beauty in Waunakee, Wisconsin, for my procedure, let me explain the different options you have for brow enhancement.
Microblading Artist and Founder
Kylene is an experienced esthetician having worked at Neroli Spa Salon, Cameo Spa Salon as well as Elevation Spa and Salon. She also was a part of the team that launched Velvet Waxing Studio. Kylene places an emphasis on continuing education and keeping up with the latest skin innovation. That is why she recently went to California and took a course to attain her master certification in microshading to add to her master certification in microblading.
Full disclosure I did not know Kylene prior to my consultation. With my previous wellness and beauty experience, I have high standards for being on the other side of the chair. As a client, the experience starts with the phone inquiry and encompasses every aspect from tableside manner to appointment confirmation. I’m always willing to pass on recommendations to my readers and promote another boss babe. Seeing how well this beauty hub was run and how crisp the white décor was set up, I initiated a collaboration on this post.
Microblading versus Permanent Makeup
Techniques evolve and that is what we are seeing with the shift from permanent cosmetics to microblading and microshading. In contrast to permanent cosmetics which is essentially a solid tattoo mimicking the shape of a brow, microblading is a technique that uses 12-15 blades in a hand tool to create hair-like strokes in which pigment is implanted.
The microblading technique creates a much more natural looking brow in the superficial layers of the skin. Results vary depending on skin type and will need to be touched up everyone to two years.
Microblading, Micro-feathering, and Microshading
As they may, beauty trends transition and spin-off. Now there are even more microblading strokes to choose from:
Microfeathering: Uses the existing hair as a starting point to fill in with feather-like strokes. Think fluffy model brows. These can run you $1,200-$1,500 and last the least amount of time, needing to be touched up every 8-12 months.
Microshading: Can be done manually or in the case of Buttercup Beauty can be done with a handheld pen. Creates the eyebrow powder shadowing as if you had gone over your brows with an eyebrow powder.
Qualifying for Microblading and Microshading
One thing that validated Kylene’s professionalism for me was knowing she had turned down service for a couple of clients. That may sound weird but not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure so you want to choose a professional that will do a proper consultation and screening. Those who may not be ideal for this enhancement include:
- Oily, Sensitive or Fair Skin
- Smokers
- Women who are pregnant/nursing
- Those with redness in their skin, rosacea, and capillaries near the surface.
- On antibiotics
- Bleeds easily or on blood thinning medications
