Overture Galleries: Gallery II
“Manifest Black,” on view in Overture’s Gallery II through March 8, 2026, brings together artists Marlon Howard Banks and Sharon L. Bjyrd in a powerful visual exploration of Black presence, identity and legacy. Banks, a Milwaukee artist, author and retired educator, blends symbolic realism, diaspora folktales and his signature style, “Forward & Black,” celebrating the light of Black experience. Bjyrd’s vibrant portraits honor the beauty, resilience and cultural richness of Black womanhood. A self-taught artist, her work appears in public collections and exhibitions across Wisconsin and Illinois. Together, their storytelling creates a resonant tribute to Black creativity and becoming.
