A Day At the Circus

Magical memories were made during a recent Saturday morning trip to the circus.  Participants of the Urban League of Greater Madison’s Fatherhood Responsibility Program enjoyed a day out with their children watching tigers, jugglers, and aerial acts at the Zor Shrine Circus in Madison.

Held at the Alliant Energy Center-Coliseum, human acrobatics and other daredevil feats, gave fathers time to positively engaged in their children’s lives.

“It was fun for me to be able to see my daughter really enjoy herself. “It really helped build our father-and-daughter bond.”

“The Fatherhood program is something I really appreciate and makes me just a better dad. There are some things I lack, but I’m out here looking for the answers. And, (Leotha Stanley, the program’s director) provides that for me and I really appreciate him for that.”

The Fatherhood Program works to enhance children’s well-being through the support and development of fathers. It also aids in helping non-custodial fathers who may be struggling with child support arrearages.

Additionally, the program offers job coaching, training, and placement services as well as fatherhood workshops. Because many services are provided in a group setting, participants learn in a peer-support system, sharing experiences and pushing each other to overcome obstacles.
