Monique Johnson was a woman on a mission. Four years ago, she had a spiritual awakening that changed her life forever. Feeling depressed and lost, she knew she needed to make a change. One day, as she was walking down the street, she passed by an apartment that caught her attention. The curtains were old and tattered, and it was clear that the person living there was in need of some basic necessities for everyday living. Inspired by her mother, always a beacon of kindness and generosity, Monique decided to act. She started a nonprofit business called Back’d by Love with the simple goal of spreading love and support to those in need in her community. She knew that small acts of kindness could make a big difference in someone’s life.

Monique began by going door-to-door in her neighborhood, asking for donations of essential items like toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, and other household supplies. You may find clothing and other items on the table as well. She also reached out to friends and family for support, both emotionally and financially. While some people were hesitant to help, she was encouraged by the generosity of others who believed in her cause by giving financial donations. With the help of her children, Monique organized events in different neighborhoods, setting up stands where people could come and take what they needed. Her children loved being able to help others and make a difference in their community. They embraced the concept of ‘Be the Change’.
One day, Monique’s son handed out socks and underwear to men without homes, a task that touched her heart deeply. As Back’d by Love began to gain traction, Monique’s vision grew. She dreams of expanding her reach beyond her own community, spreading love and support to other neighborhoods, cities, states, and even countries. She believed that kindness knows no bounds and that love has the power to unite us all.
One particularly memorable event for Monique was on August 10th, where she set up a table with donated items, including a pair of Air Jordans. A young boy approached the table and tried on the shoes, a look of pure joy spreading across his face when they were an unexpected fit. He decided to keep on the Jordans and leave his own shoes at the park, walking away with a new sense of pride and dignity. It is moments like these that fueled Monique’s passion and dedication to her cause.

Despite facing challenges and setbacks along the way, Monique remains determined to make a difference. She knows that every small act of kindness matters and that together, she and her children, friends and others can create a ripple effect of love and compassion in the world.
