On May 20, 2023, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Kappa Psi Omega Chapter hosted a mental health resource fair at the Urban League of Greater Madison in recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month.

Fourteen vendors from across Dane County and the state participated including the Behavioral Health Resource Center, New Bridge, and the Jesse Crawford Recovery Center. Vendors provided resources for attendees to support multiple facets of mental and behavioral health for all ages. In addition to counseling and addiction support, vendors covered elder care, employment, men’s health, youth mental health, mindfulness strategies, and more. According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, over 3,000 people accessed public behavioral health services in 2021 (most recent available data). More than half of these residents sought comprehensive community services to support stable and independent living. The fair provided the community with direct access to both service providers and agencies that can support them to find the help they need. This fair was a part of the 2022-2026 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. international service program focused on building our families through mental health awareness.
