Jon Hendrics is to modern jazz singing what Miles Davis is to the modern jazz trumpet and what John Coltrane is to the modern jazz saxophone: one of the great innovators who has influenced many many musicians. Mr. Hendricks is as proud a Black man as you’d ever want to find, a musician who is revered throughout the world, and who – at age 87 – is still at the top of his artistic game.
In addition to touring as a performing artist,
Mr. Hendricks also serves as Distinguished Professor of Jazz Studies
at the University of Toledo (in the city where he grew up) and as a
member of the committee that selects the five artists who are
honored each year by the Kennedy Center.
