Black inventors | Making Black History

Did you know on this day:

February 3, 2010

In 1870...the 15th Amendment, giving Blacks the right to vote, was ratified.

In 1903...John Jackson became the first Negro Heavyweight Champion.

In 1920...the Negro Baseball League was founded.

In 1956...Autherine J. Lucy becomes the first Black student at the University of Alabama. She was expelled three days later "for her own safety" in response from Mob threats. In 1992, she graduated from the university with a Master's degree in Education, and on the same day, her daughter, Grazia Foster, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Corporate Finance.

In 1988...in Montgomery, Alabama, Thomas Reed, president of the Alabama Chapter of the NAACP was arrested after he and 11 others attempted to strike a Confederate flag flying atop the state capitol building.

We hope you enjoyed this piece of knowledge; there will be more to come throughout the month!
