February 15, 2010

In 1898, R. Hearness, inventor, patented the Sealing Attachment for Bottles. Patent # 598,929.

In 1961, U.S. and African nationalists, protesting the slaying of Congo Premier Patrice Lumumba, disrupted United Nations sessions.

In 1965, the home of Malcolm X was bombed-just days before his assassination.

In 1968, Henry Lewis was named Director of the New Jersey Symphony. Lewis was the first Black to direct an American orchestra.

In 1996, Kweisi Mfume became President and CEO of the NAACP.
